“Avant-Garde Acoustic Blues Guitar” expands on the “Red Bayou” acoustic guitar solo. Laying down both tracks while bathed in the red glow seen in the video below. Embodying the song’s sinister mood.

A mood so stark, minimalist, and off-kilter that it would make the late great John Cage proud. Cage, along with the also great (but not late) David Sylvian, was the primary musical inspiration behind the song “Red Bayou” from my forthcoming album. An exploration of traditional Delta blues through the lens of my life experiences. Experiences far different from those of the late great artists who pioneered the genre. I believe the best art of any medium is rooted in what the artist knows firsthand. That’s always been my approach to creativity.
I’ve always been primarily an electric guitar player and have little experience playing acoustic. At one point going nearly a decade without owning an acoustic guitar. The “Red Bayou” acoustic solo was the first I ever composed and performed on acoustic guitar. It was also the first time I employed fingerpicking, a slide, and a capo. Yes, I did all four of these things for the first time at once. That’s just how butt ass naked my ambition is.
