Discothèque (Announced)

As yet another year winds to a conclusion, I’m choosing to end it with a bang (at least, for me) by announcing Studio Nouveauté‘s production of Discothèque in 2012. This feature-length film (with an estimated running time of approximately 90 minutes) is an ultra-stylish mix of suspense, drama, and action as various parties chase after the score of a lifetime in the course of a single night. They collectively race towards a head-on collision, with some falling by the wayside, until only three remain. Set amidst a sea of organized crime and seedy nightlife, Discothèque covers much ground from beginning to end.

I began writing the screenplay for Discothèque in the winter of 2010/2011 with the intention of producing and directing a short film which showcases much of the territory I ultimately wish to explore, and by which I want to define myself, as a filmmaker. As a result, the screenplay contains many elements of edgy behavior executed within an atmosphere of dreamy surrealism. However, as time went on, and more ideas came to fruition regarding both the immediate past and the future of these characters, it became obvious that this project was more than worthy of feature-length film status. Seriously though, I hate trying to talk about it, and can’t wait to actually make this film and let it speak for itself.

Currently, Discothèque is in pre-production, as I continue to work out financial and budgetary specifics. Production is scheduled to occur during summer 2012, with post-production being completed by December. Given the new level of filmmaking I am approaching this time out, I’m purposely allowing myself perhaps a little too much time to complete this project, but I want to make sure everything is done right across the entire scope of production. This may be a low-budget film, but I’m treating it (like everything else I do) as if it’s my Superbowl.

Along with producing and directing Discothèque, I will also be acting in a supporting role, as well as scoring the film with Mode Nouveauxx. I will soon begin the process of both filling key crew positions (e.g. director of photography, production designer, gaffer, key grip, production sound mixer, etc…), and casting actors for the handful of speaking roles in the film. Of course, I will be posting additional news and information as it arrives…
